    FAQs
    Everything you need to know
What Alloys Do Grainger & Worrall Offer?
    plus-icon

We primarily specialise in aluminium sand castings, utilising around 40 different aluminium alloys tailored for high-integrity and lightweight applications. Our in-house material science lab has developed our own alloys, which are tailored to suit customer specification requirements.

What Are the Minimum and Maximum Order Quantities?
    plus-icon

We support a wide range of production volumes – from 1-off rapid prototypes and small batch production to series production of 1,000 to 20,000 units annually. Our facilities and processes are flexible to meet varied customer needs, including small, niche and production-scale demand.

Does Grainger & Worrall Provide Machining Services?
    plus-icon

Yes, we offer advanced CNC machining services, including 3-axis to 5-axis precision machining, with modern high-spec facilities and skilled engineers. We machine highly complex castings and can support additional finishing and assembly requirements.

What is the Typical Lead Time for Supply?
    plus-icon

Lead times vary depending on project complexity and volume. Our large rapid prototyping capabilities mean we can produce prototypes in days rather than weeks. Due to in-house DSP, tooling, DFM, casting and machining, we can support your compressed lead times.

Is Tomography (CT Scanning) Used in Quality Control?
    plus-icon

Absolutely. Along with a multitude of other quality and validation methods, we use state-of-the-art CT scanning technology extensively for quality control and development. Our in-house CT scanning detects internal casting defects with precision, providing 3D measurement accuracy to 0.2-0.3mm. This non-destructive testing ensures extremely high component integrity, especially vital for critical applications like Formula One and aerospace.

What is the Maximum Weight Capacity for Castings?
    plus-icon

Our foundries and specialised Gigacasting facility can produce castings up to approximately 500 kg in weight, supporting the single-piece, large complex sand castings market.

Does Grainger & Worrall Cast Iron Components?
    plus-icon

No, the majority of our work centres around non-ferrous, aluminium alloy sand castings.
